ECON 204 - Public Choice in the U.S.

CR: 3.0
Prerequisite: ECON 101   Public choice is commonly known as “the economics of politics”. This course applies economic theory to areas where “price” isn’t always measured in dollars, and “quantity” may represent votes, budgets, or cachet. We will cover the creation of regulation, taxation, interest groups, the growth of government, and the design of constitutions. This course will emphasize political economy in the United States. In what visible and invisible ways does our system of governance shape our everyday lives? What feasible choice sets do politicians confront, and how do political parties shape those constraints? By the end of the course, you will be equipped to confront everyday economic and political fallacies. Cannot be repeated for credit and not eligible for enrollment if credit has been received for ECON 203, Public Choice in the World.
