THTR 236 - Theme Park Design CR: 3.0 This travel course is a deep dive into the design aesthetics and technical demands of theme park design. We will cover the ways in which theatrical techniques, including lighting, set, and scenic design - as well as dramaturgy - are manifest in the creation of commercial attractions. This course will be organized around a trip to theme parks in Florida, where we will experience the work firsthand, as well as meet with experts in the field, and culminate in the creation of an original attraction design. Students will be responsible for the travel costs of this course and may apply for a Grant for Engaged Learning (GEL) to offset these expenses. Offered every 4 years as a 3-week travel course.
